Charles Stewart Mott’s Applewood Estate presented by Ashley Ross
Charles Stewart Mott built Applewood in 1916 as a family home and gentleman’s farm. For its 100th anniversary in 2016, the Ruth Mott Foundation threw the gates wide open in celebration, and it remains a free and open community resource with regular visitor hours from May through October. Today, the former gentleman’s farm encompasses the original historic home and barn, 34 acres of flower-filled gardens, stately trees, expansive lawns and the heritage apple orchard for which it was named. Applewood Estate is a Michigan Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
Come explore Applewood with a presentation from Ashley Ross, Assistant Manager of Collections & Education at Applewood. She was integral in opening the estate to the public for the centennial celebration in 2016, and helps oversee all aspects of historic preservation and programming onsite at Applewood and out in the community. Ross has her MA from Wayne State University in Anthropology with a concentration in Museum Studies and focused on alternative forms of Education. Ross has also held positions at the Flint Institute of Arts, Gordon L. Grosscup Museum of Anthropology, and the Scripps Mansion. The meeting is free and open to the public.
