Johnny Cash
A sad milestone in country music history happened on this day in 1997 right here in Flint. Johnny Cash played his final live show at the Whiting Auditorium. Cash had appeared in Flint at least three times previously at the old IMA; in 1965, 1967, and 1977. This time fans knew something was wrong, and despite his strong voice he was unsteady on his feet and nearly fell bending over to get a guitar pick he dropped. At this time he shared that he was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, and while he finished his set that night the remainder of the tour was cancelled.
