Flushing Michigan Historical Society Digital Archives

The Flushing Michigan Historical Society Digital Archives is an online repository launched in 2026 to preserve and share the historical heritage of Flushing, Michigan. As a newly established and continually expanding initiative, the archive provides public access to a curated selection of digitized materials related to the city’s cultural, civic, and social history.

Overview

The digital archive is a subsite of the Flushing Michigan Historical Society’s main website and is hosted on a Wikimedia-based platform. It offers open access to a growing collection of historical resources, including:

Photographs and Postcards: Visual documentation of Flushing’s people, landmarks, and events from the late 19th century to the present. Newspapers: Digitized issues of local publications such as The Flushing Observer, including special editions from 1935 and 1960. Maps: Historical maps and plats illustrating the development of Flushing and surrounding areas. Documents and Manuscripts: Letters, ledgers, church records, and civic documents dating back to the early 1800s. Oral Histories: Recorded interviews with longtime residents (to be added in future updates).

Due to its recent launch, the archive currently contains a limited selection of materials but is actively expanding through ongoing digitization and community contributions.
