Time: 7 P.M. Monday, March 18, 2024
Ann Anderson will present a program on her collection of Girl Scout Memorabilia. The article below from the March 6, 1947, Flushing Observer, describes how the local Troops planned to celebrate the 35th anniversary. The program is free and open to the public.
Light refreshments will be available and a drawing will be held. Girl Scout cookies will also be available for sale after the meeting.
“Girl Scouts of Flushing, numbering about 85 Intermediates and Brownies, will join in the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Girl Scouting March 12, 1947.
They are also honoring on this date the late Juliette Gordon Low, who organized the first Girl Scout troop March 12, 1912, at Savannah, Georgia. Brownie Troops 47 and 15 will have birthday parties with cakes March 12; Troop 3 will have a birthday party and Juliette Low program March 10, while Troop 10 will have a similar program March 12. Girl Scouting has been carried on several years in Flushing. We have been informed there was one troop here in 1927 and 1928, and that the Scouts have been a part of the county unit for the past nine years.”
