Experience History Like Never Before
The Flushing Cemetery Walk transforms local history into a living classroom.
Visitors will journey through Flushing City Cemetery and encounter historical figures portrayed by students from the Flushing High School Drama Club. Through first-person storytelling, these individuals will share the lives, accomplishments, sacrifices, and contributions that helped shape Flushing and connect our community to the broader American story.
Each stop along the route offers a chance to step back in time and hear history directly from the people who lived it.
A Walk Through Flushing’s Past
Along the route, visitors will meet a variety of individuals whose stories span nearly two centuries of local history.
Among them are:
- Early settlers who arrived when the area was still frontier wilderness
- Founders and civic leaders who helped establish the community
- Veterans whose service connected Flushing to pivotal moments in American history
- Business owners, public servants, and community builders
- Individuals whose stories continue to inspire generations today
Some names may be familiar. Others may be discoveries waiting to be made.
Together, they tell the story of Flushing.

An America 250 Community Event
In 2026, communities across the nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The Flushing Cemetery Walk is part of that celebration, highlighting how national history is reflected through local lives, local stories, and local places.
History is not only found in textbooks and museums. It lives in our neighborhoods, our landmarks, our families, and the stories of those who came before us.

Visitor Information
Parking will be available in the large parking lot on the west side of the south section of Flushing City Cemetery near Joyce Drive and Coutant Street.
Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for outdoor weather conditions.
The tour route will utilize existing cemetery roads and pathways whenever possible.
