Finding “Homes” for Historical Documents – Presented by Lorene Wilson
Finding “Homes” for Historical Documents – Presented by Lorene Wilson
Raised in Flint, Lorene is a retired elementary teacher. She is past president of the Flint Genealogical Society and the Grand Blanc Heritage Museum. She is currently a volunteer at Grand Blanc, keeping the files and conducting tours. She will discuss how she has found “homes” for historical items given to museums.
If you have ever been to a flea market or estate sale, you have probably seen several vintage photos, often referred to as “instant ancestors.” If there is a name on the photo, Lorene will try to locate the descendants.
A few weeks ago, Lorene was given a large box of family documents, including over 100 photos, obituaries, birth and death certificates, letters and other family documents from the Detar family. With some research and contacts within the genealogy network, she was able to reunite over 100 years of family history to the family.
The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available and a door prize will be drawn.
